Collared Inca forms a superspecies with Gould's Inca and they are often considered to be conspecific but, due to their disjunct distributions and plumage differences, current opinion is leaning towards them being treated as separate species. Collared Inca occurs in the Andes, usually at altitudes between 2200-3000m, from northwestern Venezuala to southern Peru.
